BOTANY:
UNIT-I
Angiosperms- Anatomy, various types of tissue, vascular bundles etc. Angiosperm Physiology-Mineral nutrition and ion transport, mineral deficiencies, vernalisation, senescence, Growth Substances- their chemical nature, role and application in agri- horticulture, growth indices, growth movements. Fruit ripening- its molecular basis and manipulation.
UNIT II
Photosynthesis- Photochemical reactions, photorespiration, photophosphorylation, respiration (aerobic and anaerobic including fermentation- electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation, N2 fixation and N metabolism, photoperiodism and flowering, Fruit and seed physiology. Dormancy, storage and germination of seeds.
ZOOLOGY:
UNIT III
Fishes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds and Mammals Anatomy (Comparative) or just human anatomy.
Physiology
UNIT IV
Composition of blood, blood groups in man, coagulation, oxygen and CO2 transport, haemoglobin, breathing and its regulation, nephron and urine formation, acid- base balance and haemostatis, temperature regulation in man, mechanism of conduction along axon and across synopsis, neurotransmitters, vision, hearing and other receptors; types of muscles, ultrastructures and mechanism of contraction of skeletal muscles.
UNIT V
Role of salivary gland, liver, pancreas and intestinal gland in digestion, absorption of digested food, nutrition and balanced diet of man, mechansim of action of steroid and peptide hormone, role of pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal, testes and ovary and their relationship. Physiology of reproduction in humans, hormonal control of development of man and insects, pheromones in insects and mammals.
